Pakistan cultural week: Embracing the new the traditional way

A showcase of folk arts and crafts kicks off at Lok Virsa.

As another year rolls around, so does a cultural display of the country’s rich heritage. With the changing times, the need to reacquaint with one’s culture has become all the more important.


This is the inspiration for holding the Pakistan Week, which will showcase the various cultures and traditions of mainly the Potohar region in combination with representative pavilions of all federating units - Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. These comprise arts, crafts, folk heritage and music.

Other features include an artisans-at-work exhibition with demonstration of skills by master artisans and craftspeople from all over the country including far-flung regions, folkloric performances, traditional cuisine, a craft bazaar, installation of entrance gates on highways and busy roads, stage plays, activities for family and children.

Conceived by the Federal Minister for National Heritage and Integration Samina Khalid Ghurki, the event aims to promote and project the country’s rich cultural heritage to the outer world. The event will be held under the aegis the ministry in collaboration with Lok Virsa, National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage at Garden Avenue, Shakarparian from January 1-7.
