Succumbing to injuries: Shot Christian dies in hospital

GILGIT:

One of the two Christian brothers, who were targeted by unidentified gunmen on Friday morning, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Sunday.

Liaquat and Karamat Masih were shot by unidentified assailants near Ittehad Chowk while the two were sweeping roads as per schedule. While Karamat died on the spot, Liaquat was rushed to a hospital where he too later died. Both had been working as sweepers in the local government’s municipal committee.

“Liaqat Masih succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Sunday,” confirmed DIG police Ali Sher.

The attack triggered speculation, with many terming it a deliberate assault on minorities. Officials, however, ruled out the possibility.

“I reiterate that the incident has nothing to do with terrorism. It was a result of a personal enmity,” said Sher, adding that nothing could be confirmed until investigation is completed.

This incident shows that extremist groups associated with banned Taliban are free to kill minorities. The GB government should take stern action against the militant organizations linked with Taliban terrorist network.

Minorities have no protection and they are easy target. Even in personal enmity settling score with a member of minority community is easier, until the majority feels a moral responsibility for protection of the minority.
