KARACHI:

The Express Tribune brings the top 10 mouth-watering foods and beverages that were all the rage this year and stuck to our list of favourites.

If you haven’t indulged in any of the following items, it’s time to step out and treat yourself to our top picks before the year ends. Tantilise your taste-buds!

Bubble tea

If you enjoyed having your Rooh Afza with passion fruit seeds, you will love the chewy tapioca balls in bubble tea!

You can mix in any fruits of your choice to this drink, but we recommend lychee and honeydew. Available at Boba and Tastea stalls located at Port Grand.

Wasabi prawns

We saw the prawn evolution this year. Remember the prawn crackers and the garlic and lemon prawns? They have been pushed back this year by the salty and tangy wasabi prawns.

A must-eat item from China Kitchen and Noodle House.

 Caramel Pecanbon

Cinnabon’s new finger-licking invention is the caramel pecanbon. The roasted pecans and creamy frosting melted on a hot cinnamon roll is the perfect treat for tea-time.

Available at Cinnabon in Karachi Lahore.

Churros

The Spanish delight churros will devour your senses and satisfy your sweet tooth. They are crunchy, deep-fried snacks served with chocolate dipping sauce that keep you coming back for more.

Grab some churros from Café La Churro in Lahore (not available in Karachi).

Frozen yogurt

Flavours ranging from creamy vanilla to fruity strawberry, fro-yo (as most people say) is the yummiest and healthiest dessert to hit town — and it’s definitely here to stay.

Go try different flavours at Snog, The Upper Crust, Tutti Fruity and YogenFruz.

Ferrero Rocher chocolate cake

Nothing gets better than having your favourite chocolates in your cake.  The creamy filling, crunchy wafers and hazelnut centre (Ferrero Rocher) will melt right into your mouth.

Available at Red Riding Hood Bakery and Amina Jehangir’s Cakery.

Gelato

This year saw another cold treat boom with flavoured gelato. They came to town a while back, but have recently enticed dessert lovers all over.

Try it out if you haven’t — it is not your ordinary ice-cream. Treat yourself to gelato from Bella Vita and Lal’s Patisserie.

Plum ice-cream

There’s no denying that mango is the king of fruits, and mango treats are nice, but it’s time we stop ignoring other fruits.

Give plum ice-cream a try at Sweet Tooth, we promise you’ll love the colour and the taste.

Nutella crepes

Crepes just got fancier this year when they met the king of chocolate spread Nutella. The experience of indulging in every bite of that thin pancake with Nutella spread and choice of fruits is heavenly.

Try some at The Crepe Factory, Hot Spot or Delicatessen in Lahore.

Brick oven pizza

You’ll know the difference in your first bite of an authentic brick oven pizza. Whether it’s cheese, meat or veggie, this pizza is downright addictive (we recommend that you try goat cheese and spinach).

Dine- in or take-out from Xanders, Espresso, The Upper Crust and The Goodfellas Pizza.

Churros were available in DHA Khadda Market, couple of months back. There was this guy who had setup a stall infront of AMIs supermarket. my family loved having them. 100 Rs for a box of 5 pieces. Miss them now.
