A new approach : Sharjeel takes sarcastic jabs at Sharif brothers

He said the PML-N leaders were among the most corrupt politicians since 1985.

KARACHI: “Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif do not evade taxes - they pay up promptly. They don’t even take kickbacks when purchasing yellow cabs, cheap bread or laptops.”

You would hardly expect these words out of information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon’s mouth, given that his opinion of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders is no secret. Memon has been a staunch critic of the Sharif brothers and the invectives he heaps on them escalated in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Asghar Khan case.

But these words were indeed spoken on Thursday by Memon, who decided to keep things fresh and use comments laden with sarcasm before he burst into his signature tirade against the Sharif brothers.

“It is unfortunate that the politicians who have ‘Sharif’ fixed to their names have been exposed as some of the most corrupt politicians since 1985,” said the information minister. “Nawaz has always considered people as his slaves and has kept on telling lies to them. It is really sad that these corrupt brothers deceived the masses.”



The minister requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary to cancel the stay order on corruption cases of the Sharif brothers. “They should be brought to task and the amount they looted should be deposited in the national coffers.” He then asked the apex court and Election Commission of Pakistan to declare all those politicians who had unconstitutionally received money in the run-up to the 1990 elections as ineligible for the upcoming one.

Memon added that the Sharif brothers were no longer trustworthy and reliable, predicting that they would face bitter defeat in Punjab in the next elections. “Those engaged in rigging on their own seats during the by-polls will not be able to withstand the will of the people in next elections.”

He said those who sabotaged the mandate of the people and came into power through back doors give the country a bad name.
