International Mountain Day: Students from across the country put up a thrilling show

Event held to raise awareness about conservation of mountains, other natural resources.

A thrilling rock climbing competition held in connection with International Mountain Day concluded at the Ibex Club, Lake View Park on Tuesday, said a press release issued by the Capital Development Authority.


The two-day competition featured boys and girls from different schools, colleges and universities as well as sports clubs from various cities.

From the twin cities, the participants included young climbers from various clubs and students from Roots School System, Beacon House School, City School, Froebel’s International School, Fatima Jinnah Women University, National University of Science and Technology, International Islamic University and Quaid-i-Azam University.

From outside the twin cities, students from Pak Turk School Peshawar, City School Mardan, Nusrat Jahan Inter College Chenab Nagar and Fairy Meadows  also participated.

On the first day, contests were held among participants in under-12, under-15 and under-18 years age categories. Finals of girls and boys in the seniors’ category were held on the concluding day.

Hanna Khan won the first position and Aleeza Khan the second, while Maira Khan and Palwasha both secured the third position.

CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz, the chief guest on the occasion, said that rock climbing should be encouraged so as to raise awareness about conservation of mountains and other natural resources.

Adventure Club Pakistan President Tahir Imran Khan announced a two-day complimentary training course and a one-month free climbing practice in the Climbing Arena to the winners on the behalf of Ibex Club.
