Raids and arrests: Around 11 suspects taken into custody on Friday

Three of the detained men are reportedly members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

KARACHI: In three separate raids, law enforcement agencies detained around 11 suspects on Friday, including members of banned groups.

Rangers cordoned off Khokhrapar in Malir for an overnight raid which lasted for at least two hours. Initially 17 suspects were arrested, but 10 were released and seven were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation. The detained suspects reportedly belong to a Lyari gang and were involved in various cases of target killings, kidnapping for ransom and extortion. According to the Rangers spokesperson, SMGs, repeaters, pistols and other weapons were found in the suspects’ possession. A suspected member of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was taken into custody during a police raid conducted at Rasheedabad. A TT pistol was found in possession of the accused, Rasheed. SHO Chaudhry Afzal said that Rasheed was generating funds for the TTP by extorting money, adding that he recently demanded Rs7 million from the owner of a petrol pump in Rasheedabad.

Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police also claims to have arrested two alleged TTP members, Noor Khan and Gulistan Khan. Two pistols were reportedly found in their possession.

Separately, a young man, Sonu, was arrested with a TT pistol and looted valuables, after an exchange of firing in Mehmoodabad. Police said that his companion, Junaid, managed to escape while further investigation was underway.
