ISLAMABAD: Two leading UN agencies, Unesco and Unicef, expressed their appreciation for the commitment and role of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for the cause of welfare, education and health of  women and children belonging to marginalised segments of Pakistani society.

Both the organisations expressed their willingness to use the programme’s data in their future socio-economic interventions in Pakistan. These developments were discussed during separate meetings with the BISP chairperson and Unesco and Unicef officials in Pakistan on Wednesday.  The primary focus of Chairperson Farzana Raja’s meeting with Dr Kozue Kay Nagata, Representative of Unesco in Pakistan, was to collaborate on education. Later Raja met with Dan Rohrmann, Representative of Unicef in Pakistan. Rohrmann highlighted the effectiveness of BISP data that his organisation is already using for various projects for the welfare of children in Pakistan.
