Presiding over a meeting of the judicial office, the chief justice observed that an increasing number of litigants were approaching the courts to find a resolution for their disputes and redressal for their grievances.
The chief justice said that the judiciary must gear up to meet these challenges and rise to the people’s expectations.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) organised the meeting for district and sessions judges of Karachi and Malir regarding clearance of backlog and the disposal of pending cases.
The chief justice stated that the district judiciary mirrors the overall judicial system for the general public, since litigant parties initially come in contact with the judicial system at the district courts.
Also being the chairperson of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee, the chief justice observed that the committee was founded to eliminate backlog, reduce pendency and expedite trial proceedings and to institutionalise and enhance the independence of the judiciary by making it an impartial institution.
He noted that although backlog of cases existed in Sindh, pendency in the districts of Karachi was not a problem when compared to the strength of judges. The chief justice pointed out that the average pendency before each judge is around 493 cases, hence reducing pendency is achievable.
He added that under the guidance of SHC’s chief justice and inspection judges of district judiciary had made the policy targets achievable.
In the meeting the judicial officers gave presentations regarding disposal of old cases in their respective districts.
SHC’s chief justice Mushir Alam and judges attended the meeting.

@Andamentalist: The url that you provided refers to speech by Justice Nasirul Mulk. This news item covers a speech about CJ. So it does not look like there is misreporting.
May we have a test in next General Elections?
When media manipulates the news.. Even the headings change. http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/islamabad/01-Dec-2012/judiciary-enjoys-public-trust Judiciary enjoys trust changed into as if judiciary is developing a boosting ego and proud.
@Siddique Malik: Good one, this, "he behaves like a third rate politician". This is even a greater crime for some in his position. Are you sure you don't know how he got there where he is right now and has been for quite some time? Really, spend a few minutes and do a bit of research it is all there the complete history of PCO and who all took the oath to support and legitimized martial laws and the military regimes. Taking an oath even once under PCO is bad enough this man took it twice and still pretends to be clean.
I have not seen a single comment posted above which considers this Judiciary as is seen by the CJ himself. Any way self praise is no praise.
This is the most controversial judiciary.Indulging in self praise itself indicate possible misconduct and miscarriage of justice.
Popularity at the expense of impartiality ?
He behaves like a third-rate politician, who would do anything for popularity. One wonders how he became a judge and then a CJ. That tells a lot about the system that put him in this place. The very reason judges are generally not elected but appointed is the fact that they need to behave above the rigors of politicking, but he doesn't get it. With a statement like this, he has proved that he is not fit to be a judge. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
Yesr Milaad, I am sure your party will be as big as our our Kaptaan's party in the new federal parliament!!
SC: Is it Hollywood? Popularity......? Unbelievable!
So now our power-hungry judiciary is in a popularity contest- cat is out of the bag. If the sole goal of Ch Iftikhar and his judges is to become popular in Pakistan rather than to perform its constitutional duty of adjudicating cases then I suggest that the apex judiciary should take part in the forthcoming elections as a political party!
This sad judiciary has become nothing but a self-seeking, subverting and supremacist cartel of appointed bureaucrats. The sooner this usurping gang is disbanded the better for the country and for the poor people of Pakistan. It has damaged and destablized our country to a dangerous level. Enough is enough. The country should them home with their super pension packages, which they don't deserve. Enough is enough.
Your misunderstanding sir, either you are pursuing personal agenda or too naive to realize that country is at war from all fronts.
Is it popularity or credibility (for impartiality and responsiveness) that you should aspire for?
Is popularity the right parameter to judge judiciary's performance?? ofcourse not...
Judiciary has become populist and its judges 'Popstars' lead by a 'Superstar' and we the people are reduced to mere spectators, welcome to 'absurdistan' folks!
