Chinese calligraphy epitomises the enrichment and longevity of the country’s culture and art.

Learning this art enables a student to get access to a vast supply of knowledge that is centuries and generations old, said Huang Ao Jon, a known Chinese calligrapher and artist during his visit to the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Thursday, said a press release.

There he met with NUML Director General (DG) Brigadier Azam Jamal and praised the teaching method the university uses in its Chinese language courses.

“Chinese cannot be learnt without learning the country’s culture, traditions and manuscript. Chinese art and calligraphy are so enriched that they introduce you to a vast supply of historical, cultural and literary knowledge of the Chinese society,” Jon said.

DG Jamal told the calligrapher that the Chinese department at NUML regularly holds competitions on Chinese calligraphy, ancient poetry, prose, customs, foods and sports for students.

“There is great [difference] between Chinese and Pakistani cultures but cultural exchanges between both the countries help people learn about each other,” he added.

Jon also exhibited his skills by writing a Chinese slogan and presented it to the DG.
