Muharram: Rangers to assist with RYK security

Four companies of Rangers have been requested to help with security since Rahim Yar Khan has been declared a sensitive district.


DPO Sohail Zafar Chattha said this on Tuesday.

Special Branch will also help in sweeping the procession routes, he said. Chattha said the police would soon ban pillion riding for a few days.

At least 233 processions will be taken out across the district and 459 gatherings will be held. A total of 2,200 police officials and 4,118 officials of other agencies will be on duty.

Of the 223 processions, 24 have been included in Category A (highest risk), 24 in Category B and 175 in Category C. Elite Force, Rescue 15, Civil Defence, the Bomb Disposal Squad and Rescue 1122 will also help the police.

DCO Dr Naeem Rauf has already banned display of weapons. Shops located along the procession routes will not be allowed to open. People cannot watch the procession from rooftops. Printing and distribution of hate literature have also been prohibited,

The prohibitions come into effect as soon as Muharram starts.
