'Not a single penny given to the Punjab govt'

Opposition leader Chaudhary Nisar on Saturday said the prime minister should have stuck to his decision of forming an independent body to collect and disburse aid for flood victims.

While addressing the National Assembly session, he said the government did not hold consultations before setting up the National Disaster Management Commission (NDMC).

Nisar alleged that not a single penny was given to the Punjab government and that the government has not given its share of Rs20,000 to each flood affected family.

The prime minister responds

In response to this, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said aid has been proportionally distributed among the provinces.

He added that the government is making a national strategy for the distribution of funds.

The prime minister also announced that a meeting of the Council of Common Interests will be held on Monday to discuss the impact of the floods. Gilani also said that he would soon convene an all parties conference to discuss post-floods situation.

Aurang Zeb | 14 years ago | Reply The distribution of aid should be as per the calculations of the loss in all provinces. But who is going to calculate? That's a big question. As they say, andha bantay raivrian, aur wo bhi apno ko.:-)

samina | 14 years ago | Reply Foreign taxpayers are funding the pockets of the corrupt officials in Pakistan who evade tax, take aid money out of the country and fill their foreign accounts. The poor of Pakistan are taxed on everything and do not recieve one rupee of aid. Foreign governments need to stop gining any money to the Pakistani Government including loans, set up Anti-Corruption Force. Take assets from all officials, make them pay tax and the Army's assetts need to be stripped of their personal assetts.

Azad | 14 years ago | Reply And why should Nisar be not taken seriously? The Federal government response to the flood situation has been atrocious and it should be ashamed of that. As soon as The PM opens his mouth he starts begging for money from the world but never bothers to announce any austerity measures for Pakistan to follow. The PPP government has no plans, is devoid of any ideas and has no program to offer to the country. They only want to stay in the PM and President Houses and beg the international community to send aid so that they can make money of it. This has to be the dumbest government ever witnessed in Pakistan.

So money is the main issue for them not collective wisdom. I personally feel that there must be some credible set up with both local and foreign organizations who should look where exactly the money is being spent be in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan or KP. No body, whether in Pakistan or Outsiders trust any Political Party or Leader and also those who are called untouchables.It is time to behave and obey as most obedient kids.
