KARACHI: Young left-arm pacer Abdul Ameer claimed a seven-wicket haul to inspire HBL to a 65-run win over KRL as the sixth round of the President’s Trophy concluded yesterday.

After setting KRL a target of 308, HBL bowled them out for 253 with Ameer the standout performer with figures of seven for 66. The 20-year old’s victims included KRL’s four top-order batsmen including Saeed Anwar Junior, Shoaib Ahmed, Bazid Khan and Naved Yasin.

Apart from Ameer, 19-year old Ehsan Adil, who took six wickets in the first-innings, grabbed three wickets to put the target beyond KRL’s reach.

Earlier, resuming the day’s play on 350 for eight, HBL declared their innings after adding 49 runs.

Tanvir, Azam help PQA
register first win

Meanwhile, PQA registered their first win of the competition, pulling off a sensational 17-run win over Wapda at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad after heroics from the in-form Tanvir Ahmed and Azam Hussain.

Needing another 96 to win, Wapda resumed the final day on 21 for two but PQA sealed the win after dismissing their opponents for 100.

Tanvir ripped through the Wapda line-up and claimed figures of four for 12, while Azam also grabbed four wickets for 41.

“We believed we could defend this small total,” Tanvir told The Express Tribune. “Credit to Azam, who bowled superbly to keep pressure from both ends. He has been brilliant on wickets that don’t favour spinners.”

PIA secure four-wicket win

Meanwhile, Fahad Iqbal played a defiant 38 to guide PIA to a four-wicket win against ZTBL at Diamond Ground, Islamabad.
