Interior ministry finalises security plan for Muharram

Peshawar, DI Khan, Kohat and 29 areas in Punjab declared sensitive, to be monitored through CCTV cameras.

ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry, along with provincial governments, has finalised the security plan which will be implemented during the month of Muharram to ensure peace across the country, Express News reported on Saturday.

According to the interior ministry, control rooms have been established at district levels to monitor processions and sensitive areas across the country through CCTV cameras.

The sensitive areas in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa include Peshawar, DI Khan and Kohat while 29 areas in Punjab have been declared sensitive along with 11 procession routes in Islamabad.

On request of the provincial governments, the interior ministry has decided to deploy FC and Rangers in the sensitive areas during Muharram.

Earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had stated that he has received information about terrorist activities being planned in various areas during Muharram, and assured that the government is taking adequate measures to prevent them.
