Massive bust: Police arrest three suspected weapon smugglers

As many as 44 weapons, a hand grenade, one grenade launcher and hundreds of rounds of ammunition seized.

KARACHI: Police arrested three suspected weapon smugglers and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a raid at the Superhighway on Tuesday.

The men arrested were identified as Shakeel Khan, Fayyaz Khan and Dost Mohammad. The weapons were hidden in different parts of an intercity bus.

DIG East Shahid Hayat told the media that the police conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off. “The weapons were to be distributed to different outfits in the city during the month of Muharram,” said Hayat.

The weapons recovered included 19 sub-machine guns, 21 rifles, two 9mm pistols, two TT pistols, one hand grenade, one grenade launcher and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
