Crime: Robbery bid at jewellery store foiled

The vehicle used by the robbers was found abandoned a few kilometres away in Mari Pattan village.

ATTOCK: A security guard prevented a robbery at a jewellery shop in Jhand Tehsil on Tuesday. Jhand Police said that three armed men tried to overpower the watchman, Spain Gul, deputed at the jewellery store of Hazji Safdar.

Gul, who was sharpening his knife at the time, attacked the robbers with the blade and injured one of them. The robbers did not shoot Gul but maimed him after hitting him with their pistols and fled. Police said that while three men went to rob the store, two of their accomplices waiting for them in a car parked outside the market to make an escape. Police cordoned off the area and started searching for the robbers. The vehicle used by the robbers was found abandoned a few kilometres away in Mari Pattan village. After the incident, local jewellers blocked the Jhand-Kohat Road for over an hour in protest. They dispersed after assurances from the police.
