Tragedy: Five of a family killed as roof caves in

A woman and four children were killed and two others injured when the roof of their house collapsed in Nangwalai area of Kabal tehsil on Wednesday.


The incident occurred at around 3am when the residents of the two-bedroom rented house were asleep, a police official told The Express Tribune. The roof caved in when one of the girders of the house collapsed, the official added.

Locals rushed to the scene to recover the victims from the debris and shifted them to the Saidu Sharif Hospital. The deceased were identified as Ayman, 5; Maria, 2; Abdullah, 14, and his mother Akhtar Begum, 55. Saima, wife of Noor Alam, and Sayed Alam received injuries but their condition is stable according to doctors.

Police said the family had been living in Karachi for the past 14 years and had recently returned to their native town of Jura due to the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi. Not finding a suitable house in their hometown, the family had rented a house in Ningwalai village.
