Karachi violence case: SC takes notice of killings of lawyers

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued notice to the inspector general of the Sindh police over the murders of lawyers and violence at the district bar associations in Sindh.

The police chief has been directed to appear with his comments before the apex court on October 24.

A delegation of the Karachi Bar Association members, led by its president, Mehmoodul Hasan, had met Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday.

They complained about the failure of the law enforcement agencies to protect practicing lawyers, some of who were killed in Karachi, and inaction against those involved in violence at the Khairpur and Hyderabad district bar associations.

The Supreme Court bench is expected to take up the suo motu case on the implementation of the apex court's judgment passed earlier in the Karachi violence case at its Karachi Registry from October 23.
