Shahid Afridi was forced to cancel his scheduled press conference after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ordered to avoid media interaction, stated a close aide of the all-rounder.
Afridi, who returned on Saturday after featuring for Hampshire in the Champions League T20 qualifiers, had planned to hold a talk in Karachi yesterday.
The 32-year-old, going through a lean patch with both bat and ball, was believed to ‘discuss’ reasons for his poor performance at the World Twenty20.
“Afridi was told by the PCB not to hold any such media conference,” said the aide. “He was reminded about the central contract clause which bars a player from such acts without the board’s permission.
“The PCB officials did it to avoid further controversy in the World Twenty20 fall-out. It’s already unimpressed by Abdul Razzaq’s outburst regarding Mohammad Hafeez.”

@Huma: Just like Afridi had the ball in his mouth in front of the whole world?
Don't hold press conference just quit honourably on your own or he should never be included in the team
There are two famous Afridi's in Pakistan.
Dr. Afridi, (CIA helper of Osama Operation) , and Shahid Afridi (who plays for Pakistan).
Dr. Afridi with one act earned security, americanism and a secure future in USA.
Afridi on the other hand was de-tracked by PCB many times and lost the venom to play now.
People with heart enlargement problem should retire from sport.
Press conference not media conference
Why dont our players learn how to retire gracefully. Afridi we all love you but its time to retire in a respectable manner.
Please retire. Give some other deserving player a chance.
Good job keeping him away from the media. God knows what new controversy he might have created.
Is there any justification for trail of poor performance? Good job PCB not allowing him to talk nonsense!
Lean patch? Can't remember when performed last time probably in 2009 t20 final against srilanka.one of the most brainless cricketers I have seen in 20 years of my cricket following.
Razzaq should be thankful for his omission. He cant play spin if his life depended on it. And with this mediocre pace he is no threat as a bowler. Not really sure what he is crying for.
@mirza... Stuff it!
Miracles do happen. Afridi is forced to cancel media talk! He must be sick and stomach churning because he has not made any political statements for a while.
Abdul Razzaq should cleared by Pcb and he take a part in hong kong
