According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the decision to take the 14-year-old off the ventilator for a while proved to be successful and an air ambulance was on standby, in case a decision was taken to fly her abroad for further treatment.
Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, talking to Express News at Karachi airport on returning from Dubai today, also confirmed that all preparations were made, if the doctors decide to send her abroad.
ISPR added that there was improvement in Yousufzai’s breathing and that her wounds were healing.
She is being treated at the country’s top military hospital in Rawalpindi and on Saturday she showed signs of improvement by moving her hands and feet.
“Doctors have reviewed Malala’s condition and are satisfied,” military spokesman Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Sunday.
Earlier AFP reported that the United Arab Emirates had sent an aircraft to fly Yousufzai for further medical treatment, a top official said on Sunday.
"There is an Emirati plane ready to evacuate" 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai, the official told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding she would be flown out once "final preparations are complete."
Pakistan's ambassador to the UAE, Jamil Ahmed Khan, told a private Pakistani television network that the young child rights activist would be flown to Dubai for further treatment.
The military had said on Sunday that Malala is making “slow and steady progress” in her recovery.
The shooting of 14-year-old Malala has been denounced worldwide and by the Pakistani authorities, who have offered a reward of more than $100,000 for the capture of her attackers.
Doctors are continuing to monitor Malala’s condition and will carry out a detailed examination on Sunday evening, Bajwa said.
“She is making slow and steady progress which is in keeping with expectations. Recovery from this type of injury is always slow.”
The cold-blooded murder attempt has sickened Pakistan, where Malala came to prominence with a blog for the BBC highlighting atrocities under the Taliban, who terrorised the Swat valley from 2007 until a 2009 army offensive.
Activists say the shooting should be a wake-up call to those who advocate appeasement with the Taliban.

i think that is not tali-ban attack i think this is all game of politics
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: The USA and Germany would be fine, but they are a little far away. Not much further than Dubai is Israel, which has some of the best hospitals and facilities in the world, and an astonishing level of medical research. If only there weren't so much blind prejudice against the country, Pakistan could benefit a great deal from association with the country with the highest level of innovation in the world. The Israelis treat many Palestinians and other Arabs in their hospitals, so Malala would be very welcome.
The main thing is toi get the very best treatment for her, to ensure her full recovery, and to make it possible for her to return to the remarkable career she has embarked. I remember Muslim women reformers in the Middle East from the late 19th century, but none achieved the results they hoped for. But Malala is the first person I have known in my lifetime to give real promise for a future, not just for Pakistani and Afghan women, but for Pakistanis as a whole. One day she may become the strongest politician the country has known, and her name will become a legend.
And I hope the desperate attempt to kill her will be the beginning of the full exposure of the Taliban as cheap, cowardly and dishonest criminals. The fact that they wanted to kill her because she was encouraging girls to go to school shows their basing ignorance of Islamic history. Down the years there have been hundreds of great female 'ulama, scholars of Qur'an and hadith, of tafsir and sira. The Pakistani government must confront these ignorant men with these and other facts and undermine their claim to represent Islam in any way.
Abdul Rahman Malik is not a pilot then how can he claim to fly Malala out of the country. He should stick to his own job and let the PIA do it's own job. No wonder the PIA is loosing money when the interior minister insists on flying its planes.
I think that her scanning report needs to be made public so that people may know what happened to her. What was the direction of the bullet and why she was so slowly recovering? Or just it is a media hype to divert the attention of the people of Pakistan.
ISPR is not known for telling the full truth that is why I am worried about Malala. I would prefer an independent opinion.
If the UAE govt is so concerned, they should stop the wahabi petrodollars flowing into Pakistan that finance the extremism.
@zeeshan sheikh:
Another Taliban sympathizer, huh?
Al-Jazeera is saying there is very little chance of Malala surviving. Who is telling the truth?
Great news, Inshallah she will have a full recovery. Let us not waver in eliminating the Taliban once and for all, and let use this moment to change ourselves and Pakistan for the better.
Germany has also offered to treat her. Her life is in serious jeopardy and they have made no bones about attacking her again! Send her to Germany if you have any reservations about UAE!
@Azim: I think you are confused. UAE is a well wisher. The support and funding for TTP comes from the Salafis in Saudi Arabia- they are the culprits behind the curtain.
Malala is proud to be Pakistan, She made Pakistan image to a such hight in the world, no politician can do in their total life.
She is has no compare with Any other who is in USA prison, who never did, or never thought of Pakistan.
After being stabilized, she should be flown along with her family to Germany or USA, they have offered help and we should avail it. These countries has the best medical care and Malala will be needing extensive speech and physical therapy. why the government is playing politics with her life, these Muslims from the middle east has lots to do with the situation in Pakistan, stop them sending money and support to the Taliban in name of spreading Islam.
@Acorn Guts: Okay genius, ask yourself then, if these drones do take out these scum Taliban (of which there are more breakaway factions than you can imagine, so putting them all under one umbrella is also a sign of your ignorance), then why do they keep reappearing? I mean, with faceless technology such as drones and CIA intelligence, what's going on? This means either of 2 things, that theyre actually NOT striking the intended targets and striking innocents to create hostility, inspire feelings of revenge and ensure that their proxy agents (the anti Pakistan Taliban who are operating under the cover of your "oh so democratic" forces in all major hubs of this country, not just N. Waziristan) have enough recruits to select from. Alternatively, the targets being struck are indeed Taliban, but for some reason (my guess being the insane amounts of illiteracy and poverty creating potential recruits and inside support, once again courtesy of your guardians of democracy), they manage to come back stronger, their weapons are getting better, they don't seem to run out of ammo unlike their counterparts being defeated in Syria (who your Amreeka is so adamant on calling "rebels" just for geopolitical gains)
@ Azim Very bravely said. I agree. Malala will not be safe there as they are the ones funding the extremists and creating the mess for Pakistan.
Malala is a Pakistani citizen, like other 180 plus Pakistanis. If USA is desparate to help her out, it should liberate Dr Aafia Siddiqui and stop poking its nose in Pakistan.
plz dnt disturb the drones issue with talibans. in war always killing take place why people are quiet over 40000 civilians killed by extremists including nw malala incident?
MALALA A BRAVE CHILD, MY DAUGHTER I WISH YOU A RAPID RECOVERY.
UAE ready to fly out Malala Hmmmmm... What is that saying... It goes like this - "Out of the pan and into the fire..."
@Javed: Hello Dubai
Excellent exercise in PR !!
dont forget you were one of the first country to recognise barbarian Taliban government in AFghanistan
Down with your 2 faced policy - you and house of Saud should stop funding the Talibans, more Malala type incidents shall not happen
@Zeeshan: And what about the hundreds of children killed in bomb attacks by these TTP murderers? The TTP and their supporters such as yourself will have to answer to Allah SWT on that day.
@moeed: Sir, why are you so shy?
Why Dubai, India can offer better medical treatment than Dubai. Its puzzling that India didn't make offer. It is good opportunity to win the hearts to win the hearts of Pakistani anti Taliban people.
and the unknown children killed in drone attacks will rest in peace in there graves and will resurrect on judgement day and a final judgement will be done that day no one will dare to challenge that no one liberals.
PS; it is good that malala receiving good medical treatment and a lot of sympathizer (including me) but what about drone victims.
When there's an offer, why not send her to a better facility!!
@khalid: Khalid, in all honesty, I think there is a severe security threat underlining this event. A country where military bases are attacked, a hospital may not have the resources to combat a threat.
@Javed Both problems are equally pernicious and evil. Supporting one should not mean condoning the other.
God willing, she will recover to be back to full health.
But then, what will she do? She is a marked woman and so is her entire family. Living in Pakistan would seem to be out of the question. So I would say to her: "You go, girl; make a life for yourself somewhere and be happy and well.
This is deplorable. Once a nation of Benazir Bhutto. Now murderous fools. Why do middle east countries treat women like trash? .
@moeed: It is all about intentions sir. We all condemn the innocent lives that are lost through drone attacks but the intention there is to rid of extremist elements not a cold-blooded murder of a minor. Had it so been, the drone attacks would have come at a greater rate and on urban populous cities than dodgy militant hide-outs.
Please don't compare attack on Malala to drone attacks in fact don't even try to justify Malala's attempted murder. One was barbaric attack on a minor other is to rid us all of this scum.
In Pakistan if you are Rich or you are famous then you will be given attention and Our Humanity and Our Muslim Brothers Humanity also wakes up when they can get the due attention on world forum. UAE promised Hospitals for Kashmir region but where are these Hospitals ??? and also along with Malala two other girls were injured as well but no one is talking about them. Unless and until Muslims and Pakistanis will change this attitude of Prioritized Attention Seeking Humanity nothing can change. Malala and Each and every Pakistani must be given due attention. Will UAE will do the same if some Poor girl with no one to talk about will be dying like that ?? Also In UAE i have attended one meeting and two Afghans were telling Three Saudi Guys that One Pakistani Guy try to kill One Afghan girl and they were Using Malala's name to abuse Pakistan and Saudis were agreeing with them and they were abusing Pakistan as well and it is another sad development and misinformation spread by our friends from KPK and Afghanistan as I have seen No One from KPK or Pukhtoons from Karachi call themselves Pakistanis in Middle East and also they are at the forefront of making fun of Other Pakistanis along with Arabs. .
UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia! instead please stop supporting Taliban and likes, Stop your support to religious outfits and we would not have any issue!!!
If one of the top Pakistani Hospitals is not being able to provide treatment, close it, my tax money should not be waited!
I work as a Doctor in Dubai and have worked before in Pakistan I can assure that we have excellent hospitals in pakistan and Doctors as good as anywhere in the world, this all besides being a big tragic incident is also an embarrasement for our health services and pride
Some sick minds bring stories from here and there to justify this attack. Its the time to decide whether we are with TTP and other terrorist or with Pakistan. Now two things cant mover forward together. LONG LIVE PAKISTAN. Down with TTP, Taliban, and their supporters.
@moeed: A Taliban sympathiser using Malala for their support.
malala's life is very very important even more important then mine but so are other lives who are killed in unjustified drones attack and suicide bombings and now what we have to do is not to think emotionally but rationally because all i see malala's name being used as a propaganda to create hype to start operation in waziristan to help Obama win the election and also to enable this corrupt government to extent their miserable rule
Malala has God and the people on her side ....................and those who support the TTP still think they can win ?? I doubt it.
Stand by her, she is the concious of the nation. Let´s make it a wake-up call for Pakistanis. It is a shame that a muslim girl has been shot becuase she seeks education and she thinks.
We must ask what is my responsibility in this. Things never happen in a vacuum. Taliban has operated in a society where we all have our faults.
Really good news. But even for a local news of national importance we have to rely on AFP. So much for self sufficiency.
Malala is making progress.. and its heartening for the nation.
The real progress test for the nation itself is in its commitment to hunt down not only those murderous taliban that shot the brave beacon of light but in eliminating all forms of taliban from our soil.
Lets see if this nation is committed on the path to real progress !
