Cricket: Sharjeel’s ton helps ZTBL’s cause

Opener, Ashraf put NBP on the back foot in President’s Trophy.

KARACHI: Opener Sharjeel Khan scored a quickfire century to help ZTBL post 291 for seven against NBP on day one of their President’s Trophy round two match at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

Khan hit three sixes and 18 boundaries in his 104-ball 121, while Atif Ashraf chipped in with 79.

Meanwhile, wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed (75) and Shehzar Mohammad (69) saved PIA from embarrassment against UBL. The pair helped PIA reach 214 with Kashif Bhatti claiming three wickets. UBL were 16 for no loss at stumps.

Left-arm spinner Hasan Mahmood took four wickets and off-spinner Adnan Rasool bagged three to help SBP restrict PQA to 203 for eight. Shahzaib Hasan made 60, while Umar Amin managed a half-century as well. Meanwhile, PQA’s Kamran Younis was included by Sialkot Stallions as replacement for Abdur Rehman, with Tabish Nawab is likely to be included in his place after PQA sought permission from the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Elsewhere, Shan Masood top-scored with 94 to guide HBL to 243 for seven as Junaid Khan finished the day with five for 62 runs. Mohammad Hafeez scored 68 to help SNGPL to 243 for eight against KRL.
