MULTAN:

At least 14 people died in two road accidents on the National Highway in Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh, respectively, on Friday.

Ten people lost their lives in an accident involving two cars and a motorcycle on the National Highway near Shah Sadruddin area of Dera Ghazi Khan district.

Witnesses said the vehicles crashed into one another as one of the cars was trying to avoid a donkey cart. Four children and a woman died on the spot. Two men and three women died while being taken to the hospital.

Of the 10 others who were taken to the Dera Ghazi Khan district headquarters (DHQ) hospital trauma centre, three were stated to be in critical condition. The cars were headed towards Rajanpur and Layyah. Police said they had not registered an FIR as both families had refused to file a complaint in the matter.

In another incident in Muzaffargarh, four men were killed as a motorbike they were riding was hit by a tractor-trolley on the National Highway near Alipur.

The deceased were headed towards Bahawalpur where they were to play a kabbadi match.

The driver of the tractor-trolley was caught by passers-by who were drawn to the accident site and handed over to the police. The police have registered an FIR on the complaint of the relatives of the deceased and also seized the tractor-trolley.

The bodies have been sent to a mortuary at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital.
