MIRPUR: A man was shot dead and three attackers were wounded in a shootout in Dadyal town of Mirpur District on Thursday.

The Dadyal police book the three wounded men on charges of murder and Section 109 of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Penal Code. Two of the wounded men were shifted to District Hospital Mirpur in critical condition. The deceased has been identified as Qamar Zaman, a private car renter.

Officials of Dadayal Police Station said the three accused men - identified as Muhammad Hussain, Mushtaq and Liaqat Ali - had rented a car from Zaman a few days back and then refused to hand it over or pay its rent. This led to a dispute between the two parties, but it was settled by one of Zaman’s nephews.

Despite the settlement, a friend of the accused, Zulfiqar, started giving death threats to Zaman. They allegedly chased Zaman while he was travelling in his car late at night and shot at him near Tehsil Courts. Zaman shot back, injuring the three men, but was killed in the shootout.
