PESHAWAR:

The Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC), a conglomerate of more than 40 religious and political outfits, has announced a long march against the blasphemous movie and an impending military operation in North Waziristan. The protest is scheduled for October 1.

Provincial heads of the DPC made the decision at the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) provincial headquarters, Al Markaz Islami. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) provincial head Maulana Yousaf Shah said that the long march had been decided in the wake of reports of a possible military operation in North Waziristan.

Shah also said that DPC leaders were deliberating over a united response against the release of the movie and will announce their plans in two to three days. Shah said that DPC’s long march would start from Al Markaz Islami in Chamkani and end at Karkhano Pathak, where trucks carrying Nato supplies enter the Khyber Pass.

Shah added that DPC leaders will meet in Bannu on September 25 to chalk out a strategy against the possible operation.
