4.8m children miss polio vaccination

A total of 306,041 children could not be reached in Balochistan.

Due to the onslaught of torrential rains, around 4.8 million children countrywide have not been inoculated on the first day of the special polio drive.


According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 2,246,988 children from five districts of Punjab, including DG Khan, Multan, Muzaffarabad and Rajanpur districts were absent from the campaign. In Sindh, 2,329,277 children were not vaccinated as the vaccination drive only took place in Karachi. The rest of the districts in the province remained uncovered.

A total of 306,041 children could not be reached in Balochistan, where Jaffarabad, Loralai and Naseerabad did not participate in the immunization campaign. Dr Elias Durry, chief coordinator for the polio eradication campaign at WHO, informed The Express Tribune that the polio campaign has been postponed till September 17 due to the heavy rainfall.
