Remote-controlled blast in Hub injures 17

Blast targets bus carrying workers of a cement factory from Sakuran to Karachi.

QUETTA: At least 17 people were injured in remote-controlled blast on Monday on main RCD Highway area of Hub, an industrial township of Balochistan, officials confirmed.

DSP Hub Mohammad Raza told The Express Tribune that workers of Attock Cement Factory were on their way in their van from Sakuran to Karachi when they were targeted on the main RCD Highway.

“It was a remote-controlled blast and explosive materials were planted on a motorcycle which was parked beside the main RCD Highway,” he said and added that at least 17 people, including seven workers of the cement factory were injured. Other victims were passers-by, he added.

The van was destroyed in the attack and some other vehicles were also partially damaged.

Some of injured were identified as Nazir Ahmed, Abdul Hakeem, Ghulam Sarwar, Abdul Ghafoor, Shukat, Haji Gull Baig, Mohammad Hasan, Pir Mohammad, Abdul Qadir and Jabar Sajan.

No group had claimed responsibility for the attack till the filing of this report.

A case has been registered against unknown persons and an investigation is under way.
