A proclaimed offender was shot and killed in what the Khurarianwala police claimed was a shootout with the police on Friday night.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sadiq Ali Dogar identified the deceased as Sarfraz alias Lalo, a resident of Chak 94-RB Atti in Balochni area.
He said Sarfaraz who was riding a motorbike was chased by a Khurarianwala police team and killed in a shootout near Saimwala Bridge.
He said the police team had chased Sarfaraz and an accomplice after they opened fire at the policemen who had signalled them to stop for a search.
He said the gun battle ending in the death of Sarfaraz took place near Chak 206-RB.
The SSP said the deceased was wanted for cases in Khurarianwala, Balochni, Jaranwala, Toba Tek Singh, Shorkot and Jhang police stations and carried a Rs2 million bounty.
He said the police had found a Kalashnikov rifle and a 0.3 bore pistol on him.
The SSP said a police team had been constituted to track down the unidentified accomplice who managed to escape during the shootout.
