ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Friday confirmed dengue virus in a 20-year-old woman, who was admitted to the hospital and later discharged.

Her test report confirmed that Rehana, a seven months pregnant resident of Jaranwala who was admitted some ten days ago, had dengue.

PIMS spokesman Dr Wasim Khawaja said the patient came in with fever, bleeding gums and diarrhoea and was admitted in Pims for the last 10 days.

She was discharged after a complete examination in the evening on Friday after doctors determined her condition was stable, he added.

Dr Wasim said the hospital administration has allocated a special ward for the dengue patients with complete arrangements to cope with an outbreak of the disease.

Polyclinic Hospital Spokesperson Dr Sharif Astori said they have not yet received a confirmed case of dengue yet, but have admitted five patients exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

Their blood samples have been sent to a laboratory for confirmation, he said. He added that an epidemic cell has been established in G-7/3-4 with 30 beds to handle an emergency situation.
