The CEO of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) seems helpless targeting the big guns and bringing government departments to book for unpaid dues, and has asked the media to support the company recover arrears from individual and government defaulters.
“Yes, we need the support of the media to point out electricity thieves and defaulters,” admitted Lesco chief Sharafat Ali Sial in a press briefing on Monday. “The majority of defaulters are rich and influential people who are either involved in electricity theft, or are not paying outstanding dues. Furthermore, Lesco has yet to receive over Rs5 billion from the Punjab government,” he claimed.
The percentage of Lesco’s recoveries is one of the highest among distribution companies, and improvement will help Lesco’s electricity quota.
