Crescent seen: Eid in Waziristan today

MIRANSHAH: People in North Waziristan Agency will observe Eidul Fitr on Saturday, as clerics in the area received testimonies from people who had seen the Shawal moon.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile will be celebrating Eid on Sunday according to reports. The Waziristan people had started Ramazan with Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, one day ahead of the rest of Pakistan. Now, they have gone one up on Saudi Arabia and are celebrating Eid a day earlier than the kingdom. Six local people from Haiderkhel area of Mirali testified in front of a local unofficial committee in Maulvi Gulbaz Mosque of the agency to have sighted the crescent for the Islamic month of Shawal.

Meanwhile, the unofficial but influential Qasim Ali Khan Mosque moon sighting committee in Peshawar will convene a meeting today, on Saturday, to receive evidence on moon sighting and will decide whether to announce the end of the holy month of Ramazan depending on the authenticity of the evidences.
