Eid moon spotted in North Waziristan
Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in the region on August 18, the committee stated.
The committee had received reports of moon sighting from six witnesses.
Earlier, Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted that Shawwal moon would not be sighted even on August 18 and Eid will be celebrated on August 20 in Pakistan.
For the first time in years, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country observed the first Ramazan on the same day. However, Eid will be celebrated on different days.

Well if they have 6 witnesses that is already enough to celebrate Eid worldwide, there is hadeeth where prophet didn't sight the moon then a group of travellers reached late night and said they have sighted the moon in some far place, and prophet announced the whole Muslim ummah should start Eid today. Means it is nit necessary for everyone to sight the moon, if one group sights others have to obey rather than fight to see their own moon... Islam is one religion and Eid falls on same day for all Muslims whether in Arab r India r Malaysia r another place in world... Muslims of this age have made mockery of religion of Islam and it is not the characteristic of true Muslim to be so stingy in their attitude...
@Indian Catholic: Muslims may have taken Greek Research and Knowledge to the West - things Arabs had learnt from Non-Muslim Greeks through tutelage/apprenticeship. They probably could play this role because of bigotted supression by the orthodox church/papacy which was, at one point, very anti-science and against inventions. If Muslims had science in their genes, it would not have disappeared!
@Mohammad Sediq: In Saudi Arabia there has been Eid after 28 rozas in the 20th century but they kept a compensatory roza in Shawwal.
This is ridiculous, they admit that it was the 28th fast and still they have cited the moon somehow. I hope Imran Khan wont blame this on drone attacks.

The clergies of Waziristan must have a powerful ultrasound machine to be able to detect a moon that has not been born yet. The more sophisticated they become the less number of fasting days to count.

Brothers, I hate to break it to you but even the Jews follow a lunar calendar. . The Jews migrated long ago to a system where they don't sight the moon but instead depend on scientific calculations to determine their important dates . If you think you are more orthodox than Jews, think again. I have lived with both. . So instead of some fool saying he has been able to sight the moon in North Waziristan, but not Saudi Arabia which is anyway behind us, why doesn't Pakistan show the path? . Need I remind you, Islam brought Europe out of its dark ages and the version of Islam at that time was much more open and accommodating than the other extreme where you have gone to now.
The status of Waziristan is an occupied territor be extremists militants, one can't say about the status of Eid moon.

And for the rest of the Islamic ( inculding the tribal belt ) it is the 29th of Ramadan. This also shows that Pakistan is unique in every angle from the rest of the world.

Here, In Kenya, nothing sighted so far. Unfortunately, there are no technological reserve for the purpose of sighting moon.

@sumyia: It is not possible for the moon to be sighted in that region according to the observatory. The new moon is tonite but it will not be visible any where in the world not even in Arabs countries. There is a slim chance that the moon might be visible in south american countries, See below link

Its very typical about Mir Ali north waziristan. This is not the first time they announced eid so earlier. There is a group of jokers there who been doing it for years but nobody in waziristan give a damn to their claims. Waziristan will celeborate eid when the moon is sighted by reliable and confirmed sources. Today's announcement was made by un-relaible people and some media stooge reported it.The known ulema of the area has regretted this anouncement and has announced that moon is not sighted anywhere,people are requested not to listen to fake committees and keep fasting.

Hey, It is impossible to see the moon today, as it is not the first day of Shawal. More ever, Pakistan has officially started the Ramadan on Saturday. If they celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitre on Saturday, then they would have had 28 days of Ramadan which has never taken place in the history of Islam. I recommend the Pakis to continue taking the fast till Sunday!!!!!

I always thought they are wrong, but there can be a possibility of early moon sighting in that part of country. Afghanistan sights moon earlier and celebrates eid one day before us, and this region borders Afghanistan. Having said that, have afghans sighted the moon yet? :P
