KHAR:

Two people were gunned down in Nawagai tehsil while a tribal elder and his guard were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went-off in Bajaur agency on Tuesday.

Tariq Khan, an official of the Bajaur Agency Political Administration (PA) Khar headquarters, said the two tribesman, identified as Khan Muhammad and Islam Khan, were killed by unknown assailants in Nawagai tehsil’s Shah Khanay area. He presumed that the deceased might have been killed by militants since they had no personal enmity or quarrel with anyone in the area. The official added that the Khasadar force rushed to the site after the two men were gunned down.

Meanwhile, the tribal elder and leader of the Mamond peace militia, Malik Najeebullah and his guard were injured by an IED. The two were on their way to the market in a pick-up vehicle, when the bomb which was planted on the roadside, detonated.

Khan said both were rushed to the Agency Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were stable after Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Riaz administered the initial treatment, he added. A subsequent search operation was launched in the area, however, no arrests were made.
