LAHORE:

A vehicle belonging to an Elite Force official was damaged in an explosion early on Friday.

No one was injured in the incident. DSP Khalid Sohail’s car was parked in an empty plot in front of his house at Marghazar Colony, Hanjarwal at the time.

SP (Operations) Liaqat Ali Malik told The Express Tribune said that it was unclear whether a time device or a remote control had been used in the explosion. “It would be speculation to say anything before the investigation is completed,” he said.

Sohail, who is currently posted as the Elite Force assistant director (Qurban Lines) told The Express Tribune that he said that he had parked the vehicle in front of his house at around 5pm.

According to the FIR, Sohail had been sitting in the balcony, with his family, till about 12:10am because there was no electricity. At around midnight, he said, he saw two people on a motorbike pull up near his gate and one of them relieved himself near his parked vehicle. A few minutes later he went inside and about 10 minutes later he heard the explosion, he says. Sohail then rushed to the balcony “and saw smoke everywhere”. When he went downstairs, he saw his vehicle had been damaged. “The driver’s seat was destroyed and the door was also badly damaged,” he told The Tribune.

On July 6, the chief security officer of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was injured by a small explosion at his house. The device had been attached to his car.
