According to a late night MQM statement, Hussain briefed the President on the increase in crime in Karachi. He also stressed that the local government system, over which delegations from both the Pakistan Peoples Party and the MQM have been locked in deliberations for weeks, must be finalised soon since the people have been facing a considerable number of problems in getting their issues resolved.
The local government system has been a bone of contention with the MQM since the PPP replaced the Musharaf era governance system with the old municipal system. MQM, which enjoyed some its golder years under the 2001 system, has been stressing its re-introduction in recent bilateral talks.
President Zardari told Hussain that the local government system will be reinstated soon and has already issued directions in this regard to the Sindh government.
The president also assured the MQM chief that the government has taken notice of the extortion mafia and criminal activities in Pakistan, particularly Karachi, and will take action against them. He also said that a high-level meeting will be called in connection with the issue.

Major businesses are leaving Karachi like MCB, Adamjee, HBL, Al Falah and soon UBL. Its important the political parties realize all the high paying jobs are leaving from Karachi and do something about governance and law and order. The MQM needs to play the lead role since it has the most to lose. Once a company leaves it will not come back.
against all odds these two are working together and it seems show respect for each other as well. The good thing about this relationship is MQM is not announcing everyday strikes. However, the sindhi and baloch amn committees and pathan ANP factor in Karachi has made the batha mafia (once led by MQM only) only worse
Any local body system which is against the aspiration of people of Sindh and which cant protect our rights over our cities, land, culture and history will not be accepted. PPP and MQM should keep in mind the sensitivities of indigenous people. Any forced local body system on Sindh province will back fire and will create more fissures in society. Pls respect the rights of Sindhis over their land, and resources and make sure that any new local body system must reflect genuine and fair demands of Sindhis.
Let us see who is better politician or fund collecter? I think zerdari will sell Sindh again,
