LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court chief justice told lawyers to resolve, by August 8, a matter of disputed election results of the Hafizabad district bar. Justice Umar Ata Bandial then adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by the bar association’s president, who is seeking a vote recount of the election that wad held in January 2012.

Nasir Abbas Sherazi was elected the bar association’s president.

His opponent Arshad Mehind had challenged the result before the Punjab Bar Council.

The council had suspended the election results and declared Mehind as the winner. The matter was taken then to the Pakistan Bar Council by Sherazi.

The Pakistan Bar Council upheld the decision of the Punjab Bar Council. Sherazi has now approached the high court.

During the course of the hearing on Wednesday, the chief justice remarked that the lawyers should resolve their issues amongst themselves and avoid taking their disputes to courts.
