LAHORE:

Three men were beaten up at sessions courts on Friday by an addict’s friends after a judge dismissed their plea, requesting that he be “recovered” from their custody.

Mohammed Shahbaz, through his lawyers Adeel Khan and Mudassir Hussain, had filed a habeas corpus petition in the court of additional district and sessions judge (AD&SJ) Shahida Saeed saying that Chishti Hospital incharge Mohammad Imran, Nasir Hussain, Husnain Omer and Asif Munir had illegally detained his friend Naveed aka Tommy. He prayed that his friend be recovered from their custody. The judge had directed a bailiff to recover Naveed.

On Friday, Naveed was presented before the court. However, Naveed’s mother also appeared before the judge, saying that Naveed was not being detained illegally. She told the court that Naveed was an addict and she had admitted him to the hospital for rehabilitation. She hoped that her son would mend his ways, recover and lead a healthy life. After listening to Naveed’s mother, the judge dismissed the habeas corpus petition.

When the hospital staff was leaving the court, they were attacked by Shahbaz and others. The men were injured but not seriously. The attackers fled after thrashing the staff.
