Senior journalist Irshad Gulabani breathed his last on Saturday. He was 49. Gulabani was working as the chief reporter of the Sindhi language Daily Kawish, and had been associated with the newspaper for the last 22 years. He was also the host of a current affairs programme on Radio Pakistan.
Gulabani was suffering from kidney cancer and recently underwent an operation at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation. His funeral prayers were held in Gulistan-e-Sajjad and he was later laid to rest at Ibrahim Shah Graveyard, Qasimabad, Hyderabad. He is survived by his widow and three sons.
Gulabani was born in Shahdadpur, Sanghar district, and his family later moved to Hyderabad. He was a member of the Democratic Students Federation, and also went to jail while being a part of the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf expressed condolences over Gulabani’s death.
