Amendments: PML-N hard on contempt, soft on dual nationality bills

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday raised objections over the proposed legislation to alter contempt of court and dual nationality laws, saying the move will place curbs on judicial authority and safeguard the interest of the incumbent government.

Central leader of Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Haji Adeel, while talking to The Express Tribune also expressed reservations over the bill seeking amendment in the dual nationality law.

Leader of the opposition in national assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan while talking about the proposed legislations said, “We will strongly oppose the moves and will never become a party in this unholy alliance.”

According to PML-N suggestion, dual nationals should be allowed to contest election but before taking oath they should abandon their dual nationality.

Another popular stunt by PML-N, opposing dual nationality bill is not going to do any miracle by destroying the roots of fragile democracy. He is trying to strengthen judiciary for vested interests and this myopia not to going to help him at all. A weak parliament means a weak democracy at the discretion of Judiciary and military. PML-N is nowadays is in love with PCO CJ & his yes sir colleagues, not in parliament, constitution or democracy. Judiciary has never helped democracy to flourish in Pakistan but only the military dictatorship. And the PCO judges are trying to harm the democracy in the name of justice. It is necessary to restrict the judiciary’s unlawful authority. Dual nationality amendment bill is correct. If the overseas Pakistanis are allowed to have dual nationality and right to vote in elections, then what’s wrong to allow them a member of parliament?
