TANDO JAM:

The Chinese company, Deakjae, which built the Hyderabad-MirpurKhas Highway on a ‘Build-Operate-Transfer’ (BOT) basis, has started charging toll tax from Sunday.

The charges are Rs40 per car and tractor, Rs110 per wagon, minibus and mini truck, Rs140 per bus, truck and truck-trailer, Rs175 per tractor trolley with a container, Rs20 for rickshaw and Rs15 for a motorcycle for travelling one way. Two toll gates have been established - one towards Mirpurkhas while the other outside Hyderabad. The rates have been approved by the Sindh government’s works and services department, according to Deakjae.

Meanwhile, traders and travellers have objected to the toll charges because they are higher than what is charged in the rest of the country. Work on the highway has not been completed yet.
