LAHORE:

A consumer court has issued notice to the proprietor of a furniture shop for July 7 in a suit seeking damages of Rs535,000 for allegedly not delivering furniture in time for a wedding.

Petitioner Jibran Khalil submitted that he placed an order worth Rs60,000 at Bao Riza Furniture House and Sofa Maker Shop for delivery on May 24, two days before his sister’s wedding. He said that he and his sister visited the shop again on May 21 and they were told that the bed they had ordered would not be completed on time. He said he then sought to cancel the order but the respondent refused to return his money. He asked the court to direct the furniture maker to return his Rs5,000, pay him Rs30,000 for his lawyer’s fee and Rs500,000 as damages.

Kamran Riaz, proprietor of Bao Riza Furniture House and Sofa Maker Shop, said that the petitioner’s story was “concocted”. He denied telling them that the furniture would not be ready on time. He said that he would fight the case in consumer court.
