KOHISTAN:

The Kohistan administration has failed to bridge the gap between the local religious leaders and NGOs.

In their meeting last week, the local ulemas met with the MMA Former MNA Maulana Abdul Haleem in chair.

They held the NGOs responsible for spreading obscenity, maligning the local customs and conspiring to defame the religious leaders.

The meeting decided to force all the NGOs out of the district after June 29. However, to settle matters peacefully, the administration called a meeting of local ulema from all the tehsils of Kohistan.

The meeting was held at the office of DCO Kohistan Syed Aqil Badshah who apprised the ulema of the merits of the NGOs’ work in the area. He sought the ulema’s help in providing a conducive environment for the implementation of the development projects.

However, the ulema stuck their ground, accusing NGOs of serving their own agendas of money making.

Moreover, they dubbed taking the recent video scandal of the killing of five women in the jirga, to the Supreme court a conspiracy hatched by the NGOs against Kohistan.
