High level huddle discuses supply route closure
According to details, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) head Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam.
Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, who had attended a summit in Kabul on Thursday, too participated in the meeting at the Presidency.
There was little by way of an official statement released of the meeting. However, insider’s told The Express Tribune that the meeting discussed thoroughly different aspects of Pakistan-US relations with focus on reopening of NATO supplies.
President Zardari briefed the gathering about his recent trip to China, where he had participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
According to Express News, some sources said that a decision on reopening the routes will be taken soon.

“mitti ka karz”. I have high regards for your patriotism. This is what it should be and if most Pakistanis start to believe and practice this, most of the problems would vanish. In the past I have criticized fiercely when some proudly say that they belong to a Religion first and to a Nation thereafter. However, such comments have completely disappeared now and I am glad. I believe that every Pakistani knows that terrorism has to be wiped for their own good out but some unknown logic prevents them from being rational. However, I see more and more Pakistanis are coming out openly against terrorism and this is a good sign.
@Truth Detector: You are absolutely right. I feel the same. Although I share pro democracy, Anti Taliban, Liberal mindset, but it does not mean that I have to go overboard and find 100% fault with our leadership / national policies and that too 100% of the time. It gets too predictable and sickening at times.
@Raj - USA: I am not trying to be anything but a human. I am a born Pakistani and it has never left me. However, I have outgrown all my prejudices and only try to be a human being and make the world a better and peaceful place. When we leave this world all we can say is we tried to make a difference. Your comments make me humble. Now all I am doing is returning “mitti ka karz”. I want to see a prosperous, progressive and peaceful Pakistan where nobody is fearful but loved. Despite their poverty they can enjoy the finer things in nature, family and friends. I want the Arabic and fanatic culture to be replaced by the local Desi culture of peaceful coexistence. @Mirza: Who cares about F-16s? They are only a short term deterrent against India. JF-17 and other options are already in place.
@Truth Detector: Why do always accuse a sane voice in Pakistan who is saying something good for Pakistan even though distasteful for quite many Pakistanis.
Pakistan should have rational approach, the rational approach is not to have conflict with USA and should reopn the rout before it is too late.
Since establishment is softening it stand on one issue foreign policy it is fair to assume that paid non state actors like Difa -e-xyz will also disappear from the radar. It is clear Pakistan blinked after the trilateral agreement between US/India/Afghanistan. In this all mess India came out winner as it got the Iran sanction monkey off its back. Now all NATO stuff is moving through Iranian port under the disguise of made in India for export to Afghanistan.

If the three in the photo jointly apologize for seeking an apology, the US will resume NATO supplies through Pakistan.
If USA stops the flow of its billions of "greenbacks" to Pakistan, it will be Pakistan that would have to apologise. The aid quantum to Pakistan is far bigger than extra cost of NDR!

@Truth Detector: I do not advocate anybody's position except my own based upon principles. Nobody can blame me for supporting the US for making thousands of nuclear weapons and even using them. Never support the first or second invasion of Iraq or the war fever against Iran. The killing of thousands of Iraqis, Vietnamese and others. Never support the aggressive interference in Arab countries and blind support of Israel. The past support of worst military dictators in Asia, Latin America, and support of all existing kings and sheikhs. I can keep going on and on but the message is clear. If they open withuot an apology/cessation of drones as appears to be on the cards, then Panetta will have been proved right - that the closure was only about raising the pruce despite all the pretence that it had to do with ghairat/sovereignty.
One US senator saying US should apologize does not mean US has apologized. For that matter there are some Congressmen who feel drones should stop -that does not mean drones actually have stopped.
As such there has been no softening by the administration on the issue of either the apology or drones (the ghairat/sovereignty) issues. So it will be interesting to watch how the reopening will be sold to the Pakistani public amongst whom anti-US sentiments were deliberately whipped up.
How about if we call them "Punj Payyray" borrowing from our Sikh friends with utmost respect to their faith and their saints.
Reopening of the NATO supply routes can be made possible if the US tender apology on unfortunate Salala incident and compensate according to the Sharia Law for the lives of those soldiers who were killed without any reason.
Most of Pakistani armament like F-16 is supplied by the US. Pakistan would need spare parts and other equipment in the future as well. After the bellicose attitude did not deliver the desired results, the establishment has no options but to accept the empty words from the US and move on. We have only a couple of years to extract the fee from the US. We wait for right time but times waits for no one. Take it or leave it, the US is not going to bow down.
