Out of control: Six dead, 14 injured in wagon accident

The accident occured when the driver tried to avoid a child crossing the road

At least six people were killed and 14 were injured on Wednesday after a mini-bus fell off the national highway.


The wagon was travelling to Multan from Alipur. The accident occured when the driver tried to avoid a child crossing the road

The incident occurred 15 km from Alipur in Muzaffargarh district.

Shahnawaz Ahmad, the driver, said, “A young girl ran onto the road. I swerved the wagon to save her and the wagon rolled off the road.”

Five people died on the spot. Rescue 1122 teams arrived on the spot and pulled the bodies and the injured from the wreckage. Before the rescuers arrived, residents of the area had started the rescue operation.

Dr Zulfiqar Haider, medical superintendent of Alipur tehsil headquarters hospital, said that five patients had been referred to Bahawal Victoria Hospital while nine were admitted to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

“One of the patients died on the way to BVH,” he said. Doctors treating the injured patients said that they were all out of danger.”
