Senate Body: Mushahid elected defence panel chief

Top priority of the defence committee would be to promote harmony in civil-military relations: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed was unanimously elected as the Senate defence committee chairman on Monday during a meeting at the Parliament House. Syed’s name was proposed by Senators Ishaq Dar and Sabir Ali Baloch and seconded by Senators Maulana Mohammad Khan Shirani, Tahir Mashhadi and Sehar Kamran. During the meeting, Senator Talha Mehmood was elected as Senate interior committee chairman, and Haji Adeel as head of the foreign committee. Maulana Ghaffur Haideri was elected as railway committee chief and Senator Kazim Khan as law and justice panel chief. After being elected, Syed said that the top priority of the defence committee would be to promote harmony in civil-military relations. He added that the defence committee would also promote transparency on issues of national defence budget and expenditures and also in defence production.
