HARIPUR:

Scores of students staged a protest on Thursday over the dumping of solid waste close to a school wall. They chanted slogans against Tehsil Muncipal Administration (TMA) Ghazi and blocked the busy Rawalpindi-Tarbela Road, suspending traffic for half an hour.

Mubarak, a teacher at Government Primary School for Boys Ghazi, said that the TMA authorities had been regularly dumping solid waste close to the external wall of the school for the last several months. The matter was brought to the notice of TMA authorities, informing them that the practice was hazardous to the environment. Mubarak said that they had also contacted local political leadership.

However, he said that nothing came of the issue, which forced them to register their protest over the indifferent attitude of the authority. Later, on the intervention of Ghazi police, the protestors dispersed with an assurance to curb the practice.
