SUKKUR: Ghotki police raided Haji Rasool Bux Korai village on Sunday and arrested eleven men for their alleged involvement in robbing a jewelry shop in Mirpur Mathelo 25 days ago. However, villagers said that the police ransacked their houses, manhandled women and children and took away their cattle and other possessions.

Bandits had broken into Mahindar Kumar’s shop in Mirpur Mathelo and took away jewelry worth four million rupees.

While talking to media personnel, Mehnaz, wife of Mazari Korai, alleged that police had already raided the village on the day of the robbery and arrested her son Akbar Korai, as well as Pervez Korai, Nadeem Korai and Nizam Korai. Mehnaz said that she had filed a petition in the Sindh High Court’s divisional bench in Sukkur last Friday and challenged the arrests. The court had directed Ghotki SSP to produce the four men in front of it on May 22. Mehnaz claimed that the police misbehaved with villagers on Sunday in response to her complaint.

Mirpur Mathelo DSP Fida Hussain Chandio said that the suspects would be released if they were found innocent after the police completed its investigation.

Police arrested Ellahi Bux Korai, Saleem Korai, Ali Gul Korai, Mohammad Hassan Korai, Manghan Korai, Manthar Korai, Zakir Korai and others on Friday.
