LAHORE:

Political interference and corruption in the Federal Investigation Agency are at an all time high and have crippled it, observed Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik of the Lahore High Court on Monday.

The petitioner, a citizen named Sultan, alleged that agency officials had demanded a Rs100,000 bribe to register a case upon his complaint.

He said that when he refused, the inquiry officer was changed.

The Federal Investigation Agency holds inquiries before registering FIRs, unlike the police, which usually registers FIRs before starting investigations.

A representative of the Federal Investigation Agency appeared before the court and defended his colleagues, but the judge expressed dissatisfaction with his explanation.

The court directed the Federal Investigation Agency director general to present the entire record of the inquiry by June 11.

The learned judge is quite content with the state of affairs of the police, session courts, and intelligence agencies. However, he has issues with FIA due to the word "Federal" in its name.
