PESHAWAR: An important commander of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) was arrested by police on the outskirts of Badaber on Sunday.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an official of Badaber police station told The Express Tribune that Haleem Shah, a resident of Bara in Khyber Agency, had been arrested.

“This man is known for target killing of LI opponents in the city and an FIR had been registered against him for attempted murder, so presently he has been arrested on this charge,” he said, adding that the man remained active in the banned outfit in the past and one of his brothers even served as the head of the outfit for two months during a period when Mangal Bagh was seriously ill.

“We are thoroughly investigating the matter as this man is an important commander and financial supporter of the banned outfit,” he added.
