MULTAN: Tight monitoring controls at customs operations at Multan dry port has doubled monthly tax collections, collector of customs Tauseef Ahmad said while talking to media on Friday.

He further explained that the chances of smuggling and other unlawful activity had been reduced due to strict examination of cargos, enforced at customs’ office.

Before, the authority used to approve 14 to 15 containers of scrap and old machinery which turned in collection of Rs600,000 to Rs800,000 per month but now only a few shipments were cleared under the category and monthly revenue has peaked Rs1.5 million.

He also said that occasionally the customs cleared precious, expensive and prohibited consignments but such cases had been spotted and investigations ordered.
