Queen Elizabeth ii : 60th accession anniversary to be held on Friday

Queen’s diamond jubilee to be officially celebrated in UK and Northern Ireland from June 2 to 5, 2012.

 The British Deputy High Commission Karachi will organise a large-scale event on April 27 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s ascendency to the throne as Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.


Katherine Fox, head of strategic communications of the foreign and commonwealth office’s Pakistan section, and the deputy high commission’s Madiha Rizki, Sheharyar Niazi and Hamid Khan, briefed media personnel about the event on Tuesday. The queen’s diamond jubilee will be officially celebrated in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland from June 2 to 5, 2012.

The Queen was born Princess Elizabeth of York, on April 21, 1926, in London. She became the head of state of 15 Commonwealth countries on her accession to throne on February 6, 1952. As the second longest serving monarch in British history, she has travelled to 116 countries, including Pakistan (in 1961).
