Police report: I’m not satisfied, says SHC chief justice

KARACHI:

The police chief submitted a report to the Sindh High Court on Friday but Chief Justice Musheer Alam declared that it was “not satisfactory”.

“Yes, the report has been submitted by the IG and the report from the Rangers is still awaited after which the further course of action would be decided,” Justice Musheer Alam told print and electronic media at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam in the evening. He had accompanied Chief Justice of Morocco, Mustapha Fares, on a visit.

“I am not satisfied with the report, nor with the steps claimed to have been taken by the police and other administrative authorities,” said Justice Musheer. “In the next meeting we will look into the reasons for the administration’s failure to improve law and order and [end] continued killings,” he said.

Earlier in the day, confusion surrounded the submission of the report by the police. Sources in high court in the morning confirmed that the police authorities had submitted it. Some points were also shared with the media. Sources divulging the report said that killings in Karachi have been linked to ethnicity. And the police said that these killings had no link to political rivalries.

Later, however, when asked about the impact of suo motu notice, the SHC sources denied that any report was submitted. However, minutes later, the chief justice confirmed he had received it from the police.
